About The Inference

The internet is undergoing its most significant architectural shift since the introduction of the hyperlink. We are moving from an era of retrieval—matching keywords to documents—to an era of inference—where models understand concepts, synthesize answers, and predict intent.

The Inference is a publication dedicated to navigating this transition.

Every week(-ish), I explore the intersection of Technical SEO, Large Language Models (LLMs), and organic discovery. This is not a hype cycle newsletter. I don’t care about the latest “chat with PDF” tool. I care about the mechanics of how information is discovered, ranked, and consumed in an AI-first world.

Who is behind this?

I’m Pedro Dias.

For over 20 years, I have worked at the intersection of users, search engines, and the algorithms that connect them.

Most notably, I spent nearly six years at Google as part of the Search Quality team. My job was to understand, debug, and improve the search results you use every day. I worked on defining spam policies, training algorithms on quality signals, and helping webmasters understand what Google actually wants.

Since leaving Google, I have worked as a Search Findability Architect and Technical SEO Consultant for some of the world’s largest brands, focusing on the deep technical infrastructure that makes websites visible.

I’ve spent my career obsessing over how machines interpret human content. Now, that interpretation is getting smarter, faster, and more opaque. I built The Inference to help you make sense of it.

Why Subscribe?

If you are an SEO professional, a product manager, or a developer, you are likely asking yourself:

  • Does technical SEO still matter when the engine is an LLM?

  • How do I optimize for a machine that synthesizes answers rather than ranking links?

  • What is the difference between signal and noise in the AI era?

I don’t promise to have a crystal ball, but I do have a framework for understanding these systems.

Free Subscribers get:

  • Occasional public essays on the state of search and AI.

Paid Subscribers get:

  • The Deep Dive Brief: A deep dive into a specific mechanic of Search/AI (e.g., RAG, Context Windows, Semantic Vectors) explained for marketers.

  • Strategic Analysis: Breaking down major updates from Google, OpenAI, and Perplexity with an engineer’s eye.

  • Community Access: Direct comments and Q&A.
